A051000841 Recoil Starter Assembly for Echo Backpack Blowers

Key Features

  • Heavy-Duty Pull Rope: Equipped with an industrial-grade, multi-strand braided nylon cord designed to resist fraying and snapping during high-compression cold starts.
  • High-Torque Spring Mechanism: Features a precision-wound tempered steel recoil spring that provides consistent tension and rapid rope retraction across thousands of start cycles.
  • Impact-Resistant Housing: Manufactured from reinforced PA66 polymer to withstand the extreme vibrations and high operating temperatures typical of 60cc+ professional backpack blowers.
  • Ergonomic Grip Handle: Includes a wide, textured starter handle designed for maximum leverage and a comfortable grip, even when wearing heavy work gloves.
  • Direct OEM-Spec Fitment: Engineered as a "drop-in" replacement for the original Echo factory unit, ensuring perfect alignment with the flywheel pawls and mounting points.

Compatibility & Fitment

This recoil starter is the standard replacement for Echo's high-capacity professional backpack blower series. Key compatible models include:

  • Echo PB-600 Series: PB-650, PB-650H, PB-650T, PB-651H, PB-651T.
  • Echo PB-700 Series: PB-750H, PB-750T, PB-751H, PB-751T, PB-755, PB-755H, PB-755T.
  • Echo PB-770 Series: PB-770H, PB-770T.
  • Note: This assembly is designed for the standard recoil system. It is not compatible with "i-30" or "PowerStart" assisted starting systems unless specifically noted.

When to Replace

  • Rope Won't Retract: The internal recoil spring has snapped or become unhooked, leaving the cord hanging loosely from the blower.
  • Slipping or "Grinding": The internal plastic pulley or the starter dogs are worn down, causing the starter to spin without engaging the engine flywheel.
  • Cracked Housing: The black plastic casing is cracked around the mounting bolts, leading to internal component misalignment and frequent rope breakage.
  • Stuck Pull Cord: The internal pulley has melted or jammed due to friction heat or accumulated debris, making it impossible to pull the rope.
  • Broken Starter Handle: The handle has snapped or the rope has pulled through the knot, posing a safety risk during starting.

Installation Tips

  • Clean the Area: Before bolting on the new unit, use compressed air to blow out any grass, leaves, or sawdust from the flywheel area to prevent the new mechanism from jamming.
  • Hand-Start the Bolts: Always thread the 4 mounting screws by hand first. Since these thread into plastic/metal shrouds, using an impact wrench immediately can easily cross-thread or strip the holes.
  • Pawl Inspection: Check the metal starter pawls (dogs) on your engine's flywheel. If they are stuck with sap or dirt, clean them with a bit of degreaser so they can swing out and grab the new starter pulley.
  • The "Slow-to-Fast" Pull: To extend the life of your new starter, pull the handle slowly until you feel the dogs engage the flywheel, then give it a short, sharp pull to start. Avoid "snapping" the rope at full extension.
  • Anti-Seize: A tiny dab of anti-seize or grease on the mounting bolts can make future removals much easier, especially if the blower is used in wet or humid environments.
